Did you know? The 1991-92 O-Pee-Chee set marked the end of an era for OPC's classic gum-included packs. After this release, the trading card market began to shift, with companies like Upper Deck gaining prominence and focusing more on premium cards without gum. OPC's production of hockey cards continued under license by Topps and later Upper Deck, but the inclusion of bubble gum ceased as the industry moved away from the confectionery tie-in that had originally been used to market cards to kids. By the 1992-93 season, OPC packs no longer included gum, aligning with broader trends in the trading card industry toward collector-focused products rather than the gum-and-card combo.
