Kim Carnes’ Mistaken Identity brings her unmistakably husky voice to a blend of pop, rock, and early-1980s synthesizer textures. Released in 1981, the album became her breakthrough, led by the signature hit “Bette Davis Eyes.” Carnes’ expressive delivery gives the record its distinctive mix of grit and polish.

Highlights include the atmospheric “Bette Davis Eyes,” the driving “Draw of the Cards,” and the title track “Mistaken Identity.” A rewarding pick for listeners who enjoy characterful vocals and the sound of early-1980s pop-rock.
