About the Artist
America is a folk-rock trio formed in London in 1970 by Dewey Bunnell, Dan Peek, and Gerry Beckley — sons of U.S. Air Force personnel stationed in England. Blending lush vocal harmonies with acoustic-driven arrangements, they broke through internationally with A Horse with No Name (1972) and quickly became one of the defining acts of the soft rock era. Their sound — warm, melodic, and meticulously crafted — earned them a devoted following on both sides of the Atlantic throughout the 1970s.
About the Album
Hearts (1975) is America's fifth studio album and their third collaboration with legendary producer George Martin — the man behind the Beatles' most celebrated recordings. That partnership is unmistakable here: Martin's lush orchestral arrangements and polished production elevate the band's signature harmonies to new heights. The album reached #4 on the Billboard 200 and stands as one of their most commercially and artistically successful releases.
Highlights
The album opens with “Sister Golden Hair,” which climbed to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 — America's second chart-topper and one of the most recognizable radio hits of the decade. The melodic “Daisy Jane” followed as a Top 20 single, showcasing the band's gift for breezy, sun-drenched pop. “Woman Tonight” adds a slightly more urgent edge, while deeper cuts reveal the layered, studio-crafted textures that George Martin brought to the sessions. Hearts is a quintessential mid-70s listen — polished without being sterile, and emotionally resonant throughout.
