About the Artist
Anvil is a Canadian heavy metal band formed in Toronto in 1978 by guitarist/vocalist Steve "Lips" Kudlow and drummer Robb Reiner. Often cited as a foundational influence on the entire thrash and speed metal movement, Anvil's relentless touring and uncompromising sound laid groundwork that bands like Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax have openly acknowledged. Despite never achieving mainstream commercial success, Anvil became a cult legend — a story brought to wider attention by the acclaimed 2008 documentary Anvil! The Story of Anvil.
About the Album
Metal on Metal (1982) is Anvil's second studio album and widely regarded as their defining statement. Recorded and released at a time when heavy metal was still finding its extremes, the album pushed tempo, aggression, and volume further than almost anything before it. The title track alone — a relentless, grinding anthem — became a touchstone of the genre. The Side B lacquer was cut at the legendary Townhouse Studios in London, a facility known for its exceptional mastering work on major rock and metal releases of the era.
