Asia’s self-titled 1982 debut brings together melodic rock hooks, sweeping keyboards, and progressive-rock musicianship. A vintage vinyl choice for listeners who enjoy big choruses and the distinctive sound of early-1980s arena rock.

Artist and album background

Asia formed with John Wetton on vocals and bass, Steve Howe on guitar, Geoff Downes on keyboards, and Carl Palmer on drums. Drawing on experience with groups including King Crimson, Yes, and Emerson, Lake & Palmer, the band paired accomplished playing with an accessible, song-focused approach on this debut album.

Highlights include the driving hit “Heat of the Moment,” the soaring “Only Time Will Tell,” and the energetic “Sole Survivor.” These selections capture the album’s blend of memorable melodies, layered keyboards, and expressive guitar work without losing its progressive-rock roots.
