RUSH – Rush (2x Vinyl LP, A1-1055, DMM, No Jacket)
RUSH – Rush (1974) | 2x Vinyl LP | Catalog A1-1055
Before the concept albums, the time signatures, and the stadium anthems, there was this — a raw, hungry debut from three young Canadians who had something to prove. Rush (1974) is the record that started it all: a hard-driving slab of blues-infused heavy rock that announced the arrival of one of the most enduring bands in rock history.
About the Artist
Formed in Toronto in 1968, Rush — guitarist Alex Lifeson, bassist and vocalist Geddy Lee, and drummer Neil Peart (who joined just before the debut's release) — would go on to become one of rock's most technically accomplished and fiercely independent acts. Known for their progressive ambitions, virtuosic musicianship, and refusal to compromise, Rush built a devoted global following over a career spanning more than four decades. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013.
About the Album
Released in March 1974 on Moon Records (later picked up by Mercury), Rush is a different beast from the band's later progressive epics — leaner, louder, and deeply rooted in the hard rock and blues of the era. Influences of Led Zeppelin are unmistakable, but the raw energy and chemistry between Lifeson, Lee, and the newly arrived Peart give the record its own unmistakable identity. It's a time capsule of a band finding its footing — and already playing with remarkable confidence.
Highlights
- "Finding My Way" — A barnstorming opener that kicks the door down with Lifeson's slashing riff and Lee's wailing vocals. Pure, unfiltered rock energy.
- "In the Mood" — A strutting, good-time rocker with a playful swagger that shows the band's lighter side.
- "Working Man" — The album's centrepiece and enduring fan favourite. A slow-burning, riff-heavy anthem that became a staple of FM radio and cemented Rush's blue-collar credibility. It remains one of the great rock album closers.
