The Steve Miller Band emerged from the fertile San Francisco psychedelic scene in the late 1960s, led by guitarist and vocalist Steve Miller, who had already honed his craft alongside blues legends in Chicago. Number 5 (1970) is the fifth studio album from the Steve Miller Band, marking a pivotal moment in the group's evolution. Recorded at Olympic Studios in London and produced by Glyn Johns — the acclaimed engineer behind landmark records for the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, and the Eagles — the album captures the band at a crossroads between their blues-drenched roots and a more streamlined sound. It reached #23 on the Billboard 200.

The record opens with a gritty cover of "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl" and moves through a compelling mix of originals and covers. Highlights include the soulful "Going to the Country", the hypnotic "Industrial Military Complex Hex", the tender "Jackson-Kent Blues", and the slow-burning blues closer "Never Kill Another Man". Throughout, Miller's fluid guitar work and the band's ensemble chemistry are front and centre.

Record Condition

This copy has been carefully cleaned with a Spin-Clean record washer and stored in a new inner plastic sleeve. The vinyl presents with minor surface scuffs but played flawlessly on a quality turntable with no skips. Minor pops and crackles were noted during playback — a solid player copy.
