About The Moody Blues
Formed in Birmingham, England in 1964, The Moody Blues began as a rhythm and blues outfit before evolving into one of rock's most ambitious and innovative acts. By the late 1960s, the band — anchored by Justin Hayward, John Lodge, Mike Pinder, Ray Thomas, and Graeme Edge — had pioneered a sweeping fusion of rock, orchestral arrangements, and introspective lyricism that would define the progressive and art rock movements. Their landmark 1967 album Days of Future Passed, recorded with the London Festival Orchestra, set the template for a string of conceptually rich, sonically lush records that earned them a devoted global following and a lasting place in rock history.
About This Album
Released in 1974 on their own Threshold Records imprint, This Is The Moody Blues is a definitive double-LP retrospective spanning the band's golden era from 1967 to 1972. Drawn from seven studio albums — Days of Future Passed, In Search of the Lost Chord, On the Threshold of a Dream, To Our Children's Children's Children, A Question of Balance, Every Good Boy Deserves Favour, and Seventh Sojourn — the compilation captures the full arc of the Moody Blues' creative peak. It remains one of the most comprehensive and lovingly curated introductions to the band's catalogue, and a prized collectible for fans of the era.
Track Highlights
The collection features some of the most enduring songs in the Moody Blues canon. "Nights in White Satin" — arguably their signature piece — opens with its iconic orchestral swell and Hayward's aching vocal. "Tuesday Afternoon (Forever Afternoon)" drifts through pastoral imagery with effortless grace. "Ride My See-Saw" brings a driving, propulsive energy, while "Question" showcases the band's gift for epic, multi-part songwriting. "Legend of a Mind" pays surreal tribute to Timothy Leary, and "I'm Just a Singer (In a Rock and Roll Band)" closes the era with a reflective, anthemic flourish. Together, these tracks represent the breadth and depth of one of rock's most distinctive voices.
